If you’ve ever wondered what really happens during a chiropractic visit or questioned the legitimacy of chiropractic medicine, this episode provides clear, honest answers from a practicing chiropractor with years of experience.

Hey there, this is Doctor Tim Douglass from Douglass Chiropractic here in Destin, Florida. Thanks for tuning in today.

You know, I’ve been practicing chiropractic for years now, and I still hear the same questions over and over. Things like… do chiropractors really just crack backs all day? Are we even real doctors? Can we prescribe medicine? So today, I want to clear the air and tell you what we actually do.

Let’s start with the biggest myth. A lot of people think all we do is twist and pop your spine. And sure, spinal adjustments are a big part of what we do. But here’s the thing — that’s just one tool in our toolbox. When you come into our office, we’re looking at your whole musculoskeletal system. That means your spine, yes, but also your joints, muscles, posture, and how your body moves as a whole. We’re trained to figure out why you’re in pain and address the root cause, not just mask symptoms.

Now, let me break this down for you. When we perform an adjustment, we’re applying a controlled force to a joint that’s not moving properly. That popping sound you hear? That’s just gas bubbles releasing in the joint fluid. It’s not your bones grinding together or anything scary like that. The goal is to restore normal motion and reduce irritation to the nerves and surrounding tissues. Pretty straightforward, right?

Here’s another myth — that chiropractors aren’t real doctors. Look, we go through years of intensive education. We study anatomy, physiology, neurology, radiology, and biomechanics. We’re licensed healthcare professionals. What we don’t do is prescribe medication or perform surgery. That’s not our scope. We focus on conservative, hands-on care to help your body heal naturally.

So what does a typical visit look like? Well, first time you come in, we’re doing a thorough exam. We ask about your history, we do physical tests, we might take X-rays if needed. Then we create a personalized treatment plan. That plan might include adjustments, but it could also include soft tissue work, stretches, exercises you can do at home, and lifestyle advice. We’re teachers just as much as we’re treaters.

Here’s what I want you to take away from this. If you’re dealing with back pain, neck pain, headaches, joint stiffness, or even things like sciatica — chiropractic care might be a great fit for you. We work with athletes, office workers, seniors, kids… really anyone who wants to move better and feel better without relying on pills or procedures.

And here’s my advice. If you’ve been putting off getting checked out because you’re nervous or confused about what we do, just give us a call. Come in and ask questions. A good chiropractor will take the time to explain everything and make sure you’re comfortable. At Douglass Chiropractic, that’s exactly what we do every single day.

All right, that’s it for today. Thanks so much for listening. If you’re in the Destin area and want to learn more or schedule a visit, reach out to us at Douglass Chiropractic. We’d love to help you get back to doing what you love, pain-free. Take care, and we’ll talk soon.
